Kansas State University study shows RGF technology 99+% effective in killing H1N1

In a study published last week by RGF Environmental Group. Inc. in conjunction with Kansas State University the Photohydroionization (PHI) technology of the Guardian Air system was shown to provide 99+% inactivation of Influenza H1N1 under controlled laboratory conditions.

The following is an excerpt from the official report:

Influenza A H1N1 (ATCC # VR-333) was evaluated in this study. The virus cultures were used to inoculate the external surface on stainless steel coupons. The inoculated samples were air dried for 1 hour prior to PHI Treatment being initiated. The one hour drying allowed the inoculated cells to attach to the surface host and minimize growth of inoculated cells during drying.

A bio-containment chamber was equipped with a PHI™ cell and allowed to equilibrate for a period of two hours prior to placement of 12 inoculated coupons inside the chamber. The study demonstrated the effectiveness of the Advanced Oxidation Plasma produced by the PHI™ cell in the inactivation of Influenza A-H1N1. After 6 hours of treatment, levels of the H1N1 virus on inoculated stainless steel coupons were below the detection limit. No recovery was observed at 8, 12, or 24 hours.
 
This preliminary study indicates that the effect of the Advanced Oxidation Plasma produced by the PHI™ cell were effective at inactivating Influenza A H1N1 virus on inoculated stainless steel coupons under the conditions of these tests. Additional testing is recommended to evaluate other strains of the virus and other environmental surfaces and application parameters.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently published a list of products with unproved and unauthorized claims relating to the H1N1 virus. See the list here. There are 11 air products on this list, which should probably be avoided.  Notice that RGF's Guardian Air is NOT on the list. It's claims are simple and proven.

Mold Spores Can Seriously Affect Your Health

Mold is one of the most common indoor air pollutants, particularly in warm humid climates like we have here in the Southeast. The spores are microscopic in size so are easily inhaled. Once in your lungs they can cause a range of symptoms or illnesses. If you suffer from allergies or asthma the impact can be many times more serious.

Molds are an important part of nature which help break down vegetation and help make soils more fertile. They can thrive in warm moist areas. And unfortunately for our indoor environments they reproduce by releasing thousands of spores into the air. It is these spores that can lead to a multitude of respiratory problems. Some of the most common symptoms are:

• runny nose
• red eyes
• skin rashes
• asthma attacks
• sore throat

Fortunately, though, there are solutions. Some of the best advice is prevention. Combat moisture to minimize mold growth. But it's still wise to apply some cure too. There are two practical measures you can apply to your heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Because mold spores generally fall between 2 and 100 microns in size, HEPA filters are incredibly efficient at capturing them from the air and making it clean and healthy for people to breathe.

RGF PHI Cell Kills H1N1 Virus

The H1N1 virus, or “swine flu”, has spread across the globe and is now being called a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) reports over 4000 deaths as of the end of September 2009. And the numbers could climb fast.

Here in the US, while many mainstream newspapers are painting a rosy picture that emphasizes the success of the vaccine in trials, many commentators are concerned that enough of the vaccine won’t be available in time to stop the spread. Those most at risk are the young, elderly and those with weakened immune systems, asthma, diabetes, obesity or heart disease.  Acting Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA, Jordan Barab said, "The H1N1 virus could have a major impact on the nation during the flu season."

The virus spreads through coughing, sneezing, or by touching surfaces which are contaminated, then touching the nose or mouth.  To avoid spreading the infection, the CDC recommended that those with symptoms stay home and avoid crowds. Wearing facial masks are of "limited benefit." Symptoms, which are similar to those of seasonal flu include fever, sneezing, sore throat, cough, headache, and muscle or joint pains. They can last up to a week.

As the saying goes, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” That’s clearly the case with H1N1, or swine flu. The main methods of prevention have to be avoiding contact with anyone that could be at risk and frequent hand washing.
